A Newcomers Welcome Ceremony was introduced in the 29th Annual Brockville Multicultural Festival. Mayor Dave Henderson publicly welcomed the new members of the community in his speech at the opening ceremony of the Festival and congratulated them on being awarded Citizenship or Permanent Resident status of Canada. The initiative was part of the Immigration Program conducted by the City of Brockville in partnership with the United Way of Leeds and Grenville under the Federal funding by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and provincial funding by the Trillium Foundation. The aim of the program is to foster an enabling environment for attraction and retention of new Canadians as an opportunity for long-term economic and demographic vitality of Brockville and Leeds and Grenville communities.
