A Shot of Economic Adrenalin

Booster shots of economic adrenalin have been implemented in the local economy that should generate both existing and long term sustainable impacts for our business community. These announcements and others are anticipated in the next two quarters who will undoubtedly provide some significant year end evidence of growing economic turnaround for the Brockville/1000 Islands area. The announcements are as follows:
· Transcom, a local inbound contact centre has announced the hiring of 160 employees occurring by the third quarter of 2012. New employment of 75 persons has occurred over the past two months with a goal of 300 employees anticipated by the end of 2012. Transcom is doing a complete reboot for Brockville and has been awarded global contracts that will contribute towards its sustainability. Earlier, Transcom had closed six contact centres in Canada, so news on Brockville is most reassuring.
· Eastern Independent Telecom has announced a contractual long term relationship with Genband, which provides a line of soft switches and media gateways in telecommunications industry. This announcement provides a significant level of stability for EIT and will enable the firm to take advantage of new opportunities in the marketplace. Additionally, EIT has commenced a rehiring of technical personnel and is anticipating significant growth for their company.
· Holiday Inn Select is proceeding with the establishment of a 300 person capacity conference and banquet facility adjacent to the accommodation located on Kent Boulevard. An investment of $2.3 million and the generation of 15 new positions represent a solid investment in the tourism product of the region. Sod turning on the development is scheduled for late April with completion of the facility anticipated by fall 2012.
