"The Boy Friend"
Did you see it? If you didn't, you missed a great show,
both on the stage and, I hear, in the lobby with Calvin and his hat!!!
"The Boy Friend" was a fun production, it left everyone smiling and feeling
really upbeat in drab February. Barbara Seabright Moore is to be
congratulated for her vision, and Lance Besharah for his music and Mary
Hughes for the dancing, and especially for teaching all those people to
tap dance. The cast all did a great job, learning all those dances
and "swimming" too.
The production crew are also to be congratulated. It all looked
beautiful, the sets, the costumes, the lights, it was great. The
house size was reduced for this production as it was a smaller cast and
large casts sell tickets. We did, however, play to 4 full houses
of the reduced size, 1400 tickets sold in all, so it made us all feel good.
Floors
Now that we have finished our season weren't those new floors great?
Certainly in Musi-Theatre it was wonderful to have the wooden floor for
tap dancing and didn't it make the dungeon look authentic in "Man of La
Mancha"? It sure would have looked strange with the light wooden
floor we used to have and it would have cost a bundle to cover it up.
Our thanks go to the city for installing the floors.
OZ?
I have a feeling we aren't in Kansas anymore. Are you a good
witch or a bad witch? Or aren't you a witch at all? Well, whatever
you think you are, be sure to come out to auditions in September for Brockville
Operatic Society's lavish new production of "The Wizard of Oz".
You will hear a great deal more about the show in the coming months, but
we wanted our members to be the first to know what our February 2001 show
is going to be. OZ will feature a cast of over 50 children and adults,
so we need each and every one of you to join us in this marvelous adventure
down The Yellow Brick Road. The creative team has been working on the show
for over a month now. It contains the following:
| Co-producers ..... Maureen Overy and Irene Hutton
Stage Director ............. .Wayne Dailey Vocal Director ....... Shannon McMullan Orchestra Director ....... ..Tyler Pike Choreographer ....... ..Mary Hughes Stage Manager ............. .. .Marianne Bimm Set Design ......... ..Calvin Prescott Artistic Co-ordinator ...... ..Pat Playford Costumes ........... Together they will take us "Over The Rainbow"
If you would like to join the production team please give Maureen a

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Yes it's that time again. Your Annual General Meeting will be
held on Thursday June 1, 2000 upstairs, at the River Walk Mill at 7p.m.
7 to 7:30 will be social time. The business meeting will begin at
7:30 p.m. This will include reports from the board members and the
election of new board members. If you feel that you would like to
help in the managing of the society please feel free to contact the nominating
committee:
Mary Hills - 342-8378
Tina Van Bolhuis - 342-2687
Volunteer your name to stand at the elections.
The business meeting will be followed by entertainment, which will
be a presentation from the Blue Beard production. Dessert, tea and
coffee will be served.
As it was so popular last year, there will be no admission charge.
We encourage all members, new and long time to attend. If you, as
a member, know a past member who has not been involved in the society recently
please bring them along as this is a good time to renew old acquaintances.
So remember,
River Walk Mill, 7 pm
Thursday June 1, 2000.
See you there!
Costumes
We have a request from the costume mistresses. If you have a
donation of costumes, (and they are gratefully received) please call Charyl
Trussell at 345-0417 or Marie Galvin at 342-9766 BEFORE you deliver the
costumes. The cages are overfull right now and our costume ladies
need to be selective, for the time being, as they are over run with stuff.
Thank you.
