Annual General Meeting
The annual General Meeting of Brockville Operatic Society Inc. was held on May 28 at Pippins restaurant, with 17 members in attendance. Following the reports from board members Life Memberships were presented to three Society members in recognition of the years of volunteer service that each has give to Brockville Operatic Society. The recipients were Mary Hughes, Maureen Overy and Barry Whiteland. Congratulations to all of you. Zane Alexander and Nicole Geneau singing to the accompaniment of Donna Richards provided entertainment. They put on a great show. At the meeting the new Executive of the Society was elected. Now that BOS has adopted the practice of a "rotating board" the whole executive does not have to be elected each year, usually only 3 or 4 members. The current board consists of returning members: Mary Hills, Barry Whiteland, Tina Van Bolhuis, Mary Hughes, Wayne Dailey, Cathy Tekamp, Shannon Darroch Cathy Noonan, Ted Alexander and new members: Shirley Ashenden, Curt Geneau, Shirley Smith and Maureen Overy. These board members have volunteered their time to work to keep the society moving along. If you have any concerns, comments etc. Please let a board member know.

Ted Alexander has agreed to take on the job of fundraising, Wayne Dailey is our new membership chair. ** Note the enclosure about our new membership rates** Membership renewal is due on October 1st We currently have 38 active members, 6 patrons and 3 sponsors. Cathy Tekamp is our archivist and librarian.
At the meeting a committee was set up to look at ways of revising our show selection methods. Anyone wishing to submit a show to the committee for production in 2000 should send their name phone number and choice of show to Box 1372, Brockville, Ontario K6V 5Y6, Attention Play Recommendation Committee. Deadline November 1st, 1998. This invitation is open to all stage and music directors.

I am sure all of you will want to join in wishing Ben Sugarman and his bride Pat all the best. The wedding was on August 29, 1998. He wanted to invite all the cast of "Fiddler" but, oy!! How those peasants can eat.
Future member, we hope! Tenor or bass? Baby boy born to Jodi Oliver-King and her husband, Steven this spring.
President's Message
September already! It's been a busy year for Brockville Operatic Society Inc. We had two successful productions last year with "Meet Me In St. Louis", and "Nunsense 2". We also has a successful fundraising "Victorian Christmas Dinner" This year's line up will show our strength in producing professional looking musicals. We can hardly wait to begin production on " A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum", showing the Brockville public that an amateur community theatre, is very capable of presenting top-notch professional looking productions. I am proud to be president, again this year, of a group which I feel is fortunate to have so many hard working and dedicated members working on stage and off to present excellent musical entertainment, bar none! Hope to see all of you out to auditions or backstage. We've got what Brockville is looking for. Thanks for your support and hard work, see you all soon!

Isn't that scary? Our next show will be performed in 1999. It is "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum". Producer - Maryanne Bimm, Co-producer - Mary Hughes. Stage director Maureen Overy, music director Terry Gardiner choreographer Mary Hughes. This hilarious comedy is set in ancient Rome and will have a cast of 36 to 40. Some of you may be familiar with the movie. Well, we are not doing that. The stage version has more songs, more dances and more chorus. There are 17 roles that have named parts, some quite large and some quite small. We are looking for a chorus of 18 to 20, mixed ages. The lower age limit for participation on stage in this show is 15 years of age. It is not a show for small children.
Auditions will be held on Wednesday September 9th and Thursday September 10th 1998 at 7 p.m. at Wall Street Church Hall.
Please bring music with you if you have a prepared song.
If you know any identical female twins over the age of 17 who can sing
and dance and act as courtesans bring them too! Rehearsals are planned
for Sunday afternoons, Monday evening and Wednesday evening. If you would
like to be involved but have a conflict please call us and we will see
