A Funny Thing Happened on the Way To The Forum

Auditions
were held at Wall Street church on September 9 and 10 with a good turn out of members new and old.  Music director Terry Gardiner was very impressed with the quality of singing of all those who auditioned.  He is new to the Society and so he is not used to the talent that we have here!!!    Choreographer Mary Hughes tested the dancers, especially looking for "courtesans" who could really make those hips sway,  and she found them.   Along with director Maureen Overy  the directing team was able to cast the show as follows:

Pseudolus  (slave to Hero) - Mike Trussell
Senex  (a Roman) - Neil Matheson
Domina  (his wife) - Barbara Moore
Hero  (their son) - Codi Shewan
Hysterium (their slave-in chief) - Howard Alexander
Erronius  (an old man) - Rob Richards
Miles Gloriosus  (a Roman warrior) - Mike Frisk
Lycus  (a buyer and seller of courtesans) - Barry Whiteland
Philia (a virgin) - Kristen Psiuk
The Proteans - (only 3, yet they do the work of thirty) - Curt Geneau, Jeremy Solomatenko, Dan Wylie
The courtesans:
Tintinabula - Stephanie Hutton
Panacea - Marta Koza
The Geminae (twins) - Amy Hawkins , Sarah Sorensen
Vibrata - Nicole Geneau
Gymnasia - Laura Di Labio

The chorus, which has expanded since we began rehearsals is:

Jessica DeBruyn, Seanna Kennedy,  Kris Kozolanka,   George Leslie,  Sam Mackey,  Iain Malcolmson,   Kelly Maidment,  Meaghan Mazurek, Pam Russell, Jeneatha Oxley, Cindy Wagner, Fred Wilson.

Rehearsals
for "Forum" began in mid October, with Terry working with the cast to teach them all the songs.  The directors expanded the show to include a chorus, so some changes had to be made to include them as much as possible.  Once everybody was comfortable with the songs Maureen and Mary started work on all the staging.
Co-producers are Mary Hughes and Barry Whiteland.  They have a full production crew, which have been working for some time now.  If you wish to volunteer to help with the production please call Mary or Barry.

Play Selection Committee
The new procedures for selection of the next production have been put in place.  Questionnaires were sent out to potential directors and an article was put in the paper asking anyone who was interested to submit an entry.   The committee received a number of entries.  They met and made their short list, which will be presented, to the board at the December meeting.   The selection will be made in time to advertise it in the program in February.

The Brockville Operatic Society would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Holiday Season!
