The city has one Class III advanced Primary Treatment pollution control centre located at the eastern city limits along the St. Lawrence River. The plant utilizes physical/chemical processes to remove solids and sodium hypochlorite to aid in disinfection of the treated wastewater prior to discharge to the river.
