WHO WE ARE

The first Lions Club was formed in the U.S.A. in 1917, in Canada in 1920 and in Brockville  1939. This world wide organization has 1.4 million men and women as members scattered throughout 180 countries. The Brockville Lions Club currently has 68 members . We currently meet at CJ'S on Chelsea St. on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 6:15 p.m.

WHAT WE DO

In the past 10 years we have donated approximately one half a million dollars to charity.  Among the large projects were: Brockville Public Library $50,000.00, Brockville YMCA $50,000.00, Lions Foundation of Canada $60,000.00.  The smaller amounts went for local teams, bursaries, crossing guards etc.

The Canadian National Institute for the Blind, locally, provincially and worldwide is of major interest to all Lions Clubs.

In order to support our various projects we must raise the required funds. We operate a bingo each Sunday afternoon and members are allocated to one of 4 teams. Throughout the year we sell draw tickets, Easter bunnies etc. and put on various activities to raise funds. During the year there are various one day activities that are both service oriented and provide good fellowship.

IS IT FOR YOU?

Membership in Lions Clubs is open to men and women and is by invitation only.  If you are interested, contact any Lions member.

The Brockville Lions Club Music Festival

Since its beginning in 1951, the Brockville Lions Club Music Festival, held each year in April, has been an important event in Lanark, Leeds and Grenville. Pianists, vocalists and instrumentalists all come to perform for experienced adjudicators, and learn how to improve their technique. Several hundred musicians participated in the 2007 Festival.

The 57th annual Music Festival will run from April 20-25, 2008, at three venues: the Brockville Arts Centre and two Brockville churches. As always, the public is invited to attend any of the adjudicated sessions free of charge. Programs should be available at the Brockville Arts Centre by early April.

The Music Festival is a well-established and popular event that encourages the development of musical talent in the Leeds-Grenville and Lanark area.

Steel Drum Band

Steel Band (Riverfest 1999)                          Original photos compliments of Inniss Photo Service

The Brockville Lions Steel Band was formed in 1996.  It is the first of its kind in Eastern Ontario.  The band is made up of 28 teenagers from the Brockville area.

The Mission of the band is to provide an educational experience and opportunity for young people to expand their musical horizons, along with creative and artistic ability within themselves.

The band committee is made up of members of the Brockville Lions Club.  Their jobs range from Managing Director, Treasurer, equipment, bookings, float driver, carpenter and ways and means.  They meet monthly attend band practices and performances.

Practicing twice a week and performing on an average of three times a month, our band members quickly become proficient at playing their unique instruments.   Performing on their own mobile stage in a parade or setting up in a concert formation, the youth are there to perform and to get the audience involved.  Always ready to discuss their instruments, the audience is encouraged to meet the members and to learn more about this type of instrument and what it takes to play their pieces of equipment.

The versatility of our band members is overwhelming.
