(Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark Counties)  
  • Between 1997 and 2001 there was a decrease in Total Injury Hospitalizations in the Leeds Grenville area while Ontario saw an increase during the same time period.
  • There is an average of 6 child deaths and 11 adolescent deaths (11-19) per year in the tri-counties. 
  • Between 1992 and 1996, motor vehicle collisions accounted for about 2% of all deaths in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark.  In this same period MVCs were the cause of approximately 19 deaths and 70 hospitalizations per year. *
  • In addition, a recent report published by the following partners: SMARTRISK; Health Canada; Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long Term Care; and the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health Unit, found that more than 2 million Canadians are injured every year at an annual cost of more than $8.7 billion.  In Leeds, Grenville and Lanark (LGL), in1996 injuries were the fourth leading cause of death *
  • Injury and poisoning are leading causes of death in 1-9 year olds and the leading cause of hospitalization in 10-19 year olds. 
  • In 1996, approximately 7,000 people were seen in Brockville General Hospital Emergency for injuries. 
  • In 1994, we had 398 WSIB claims.
