Recent NewsBrockville Competitive Index
Posted May-12-2010
![]() The Economic Development office has compiled the most comprehensive competitive index report completed to demonstrate the community’s comparative advantage with other jurisdictions. This report will be presented in its entirety at the June Economic Development and Planning Committee Meeting. The index identifies over fifty cost centres and non cost centres associated with the process, business prospects would complete in determining a location for establishing a business and/or residence. The report is comprised from over ten independent sources who have conducted extensive research associated with comparative advantage. Some of the costs and non cost centres investigated are associated with taxation, utility rates, permit fees, housing, transportation, recreational memberships, educational achievements, competitive occupations, social and cultural positioning and a number of new data associated with the creative class. The report is segmented into three divisions, highly competitive, competitive and lower competitive. Over 80% of the assessments put Brockville into a highly competitive sector and only five areas where we are lower competitive. An area where Brockville scores amongst the highest relates to cost associated with building and incentive offerings. Very few municipalities have more attractive incentives associated with development fees and fee waivers. The report will be part of the economic indicator section of the community profile and will be available online over the summer for extensive review.
